Jackal Airship Perspective view [WIP] by chaos-sandwhich Jackal Airship Perspective view [WIP] by chaos-sandwhich
The Jackal flying low above the sulphur clouds , with full sails deployed

[as it is a WIP image the clouds lack definition and look more like fog, but i will be making them look more dense , also the sail arrangement is still being worked out, this is what looked good at the time, constructive comments are welcome as always]

thanks :) i might one day do some extra story stuff with a ship like this, i tend to have lots of ideas, but never really make much progress with a story line

thanks , the ship was originally drawn in profile as a request from an old friend, as one of his mates had written a story about airships

after that i liked the design so much, i drew it again, but wanted it to be a little different from side on view

Wow, excellent perspective! And even as a WIP image, it immediatly creates a lot of atmosphere. Will you do a colored version of this?

it needs directional rudder fins on the back. That will help steer the ship in high altitudes

i've been woring on something along those lines, hard to get it attached right, it does have a little directional control so far , as the main turbine blades are variable screw design, the trim sails add to it too, but its still lacking as it is

works for dedicated engine ships, unfortunatly a permanent rudder of this type on a sail driven craft would be inneffective , and potentially cause unwanted drag, as the air going past travels in the opposite direction, and air has insufficient ressistance to 'cut' through to steer in that manner

instead the steering is managed by collapsing the trim sails to reduce air ressistance on one side creating a turning force

there are rudders installed on the turbine casings for steering under powered flight to steer in this manner,

This is fantastic!

For critique, the lighthouse brings shame to the airship, it needs to be better! :U

that is true, i kind of let that bit slip away after focusing on the sails i think, shall have to revisit the background, i'm also considoring adding a ship in pursuit, but decided not to as it might have spoiled the image

I think adding another ship would make the picture, as you said, a disturbing factor.
Work a little more on the background, and this will be freaking awesome!
